King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre is one of the world leaders in terms of organ transplant, with major achievement in this field. The Organ Transplant Centre of Excellence at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre attracts international attention in conducting high-quality solid-organ transplants involving the liver, kidney, and lungs.

These include 1,092 organ transplants that have been successfully conducted within KFSHRC in 2023 alone. Ever since it launched its transplant program in 1981, KFSHRC has delivered more than 9,000 successful transplants, making it an important player in the global health innovation industry. Of its many achievements, KFSHRC conducted the first live donor liver transplant with both removal and implantation entirely done using totally robotic technology. This pioneering work was shortly followed by the completion of the very first fully robotic heart transplant, which further placed Saudi Arabia on the vanguard of medical advancements.

In the context of donor-patient incompatibility, KFSHRC was the first to establish the Kidney Paired Donation program as a solution to challenges in kidney transplantation. With this program, organs can be exchanged between an incompatible living donor and patient, which means that many organs can be available for transplantation and waiting times reduced. Till Today, KFSHRC has managed to perform more than 5,000 kidney transplants without any hitch.

The KFSHRC has also recognized that post-transplant care is equally important and initiated a specialized vaccination clinic in 2023 for solid-organ transplant recipients.

The customized vaccination schedules for each patient are offered according to their immune status and the type of transplant in order to minimize risks and ensure the best outcomes. So far, more than 150 patients have been served, with high compliance to the Shingrix vaccine.

KFSHRC has received recognition to be the top health provider in the Middle East and Africa for the second consecutive year. It is also ranked 20th as the most prestigious medical center globally within the world’s top 250 academic medical centers. Brand Finance also ranked KFSHRC as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Middle East for 2024, while Newsweek included this facility in its list of the world’s best hospitals and Smart Hospitals for 2025.
